Anticipation: A different New Year
Oh New Year, Happy New Year, you present so luminous light.
You spread your grandeur all the way to make it a splendid night.
In pubs and malls, in dainty stalls you nestle in happy faces,
With fruits and cakes and sweets and bakes happiness blooms in stretches.
Crowd on roads, crowd in churches, people are bursting crackers,
But do you love us equally all? we lack the measuring trackers.
Amid the joy, amid the shouts, there lies a rueful gloom;
While many children get plucked by death before they reach the stage of bloom.
Carnage,war and death maim our brothers in the neighbouring land,
Oh New Year! can your music heal their wound and make them stand?
Can your lustre treat the untreated and feed the unfed?
Can you save some innocent faces from the mouth of the granade?
If you can your celebrations will be etched in the eternity,
You will be revered by all with unparalleled sanctity.
