A walk at night
In solitude, I walked a path so still,
Within my mind, a tempest's wild thrill.
Ever vigilant, for fight or for flight,
Yearning for shadows that cloak the night.

I wait for beasts that lurk in the dark,
To seize me, silence me, leave a cruel mark.
Bound hands, gasping for life's sweet breath,
Anticipating a dance with looming death.

I brace for blows, taste crimson so red,
Yet time and again, I reach my bed.
Uncertain if it's a curse or a blessed grace,
This nightly battle, I silently embrace.

But deep within, another battle does brew,
A quest for peace, those monsters I pursue.
In this quiet walk, a chance to decree,
The truest monster, dwelling deep in me.
