Toss me into the deep end
Watch me struggle
To stay afloat.
Listen to my gasping breaths,
My splashing limbs.
The water froths,
I sink in.
Watch my head dip under
Count the seconds

Kicking my legs furiously
Eyes storming with thunder
Watch me
As throw myself under,
Towards the shallows
Feet touching tiles
Finally, relief.
Then you wade in,
Your voice so very patronising
Smile and tell me
'Well now you know how to swim.'
