Moonlight
Our hands go limp.
Not having to pull them apart,
But having them fall to our sides on their own.
We both knew.
It was apparent now under the eerie moonlight.
We both fall completely silent,
Letting the quiet debate our differences for us.
You never liked the moon.
It was unsettling yet beautiful at the same time.
You say it only brought darkness and mystery to you.
I was never fond of the sun,
For it was too bright and harmful.
It brought burns to my fragile skin.
We don’t have to say anything,
We know.
You disappear when night strikes the world and I don’t try to stop you.
I can’t.
In the early morning, you will be okay.
You will have your sunlight and I,
No matter how long I dwell in my beloved moonlight,
Will never heal from the sun’s burns.
But you,
Never got burned by the moonlight.
