The rose gave it's life unwillingly, so love could be expressed in the few days of beauty before it succumbs to death. First the signs of shriveling followed by wilt - how many days left? How many have been killed? Has anything ever lasted after the smell of decay overcame the rose? Into the trash can it is thrown. Like so many of the expressions of love in the span of a life - an after thought, but not for the flower's life.
