If You Were To Ask
If you were to ask my hand in dance,
and let the music guide our night,
every part of me would be willing
to give my hand in dance.

If you were to ask my close embrace,
and the protection of your wounds,
not a part of me would oppose
to cover you in my close embrace.

If you were to ask my heartfelt words,
drained straight from my heart,
which already beats for you,
for your divinity I am willing
to give my heartfelt words.

So if you were to ask myself
wouldn’t I happily say yes?
Wouldn’t I bring you out to dance,
embrace you when you need it,
and speak my hearts song?

Yet if you were to ask myself,
I would have to decline.
These legs can no longer dance,
these hands are rugged and cold,
and these words a jumbled and confused mess.

I guess..you could ask my eyes,
they’ve yet to lose their ability to see,
they can still glance upon your beauty.
I can’t give you your dance,
your warm and comforting protection,
or the words which my heart sings for you.
I cannot give you myself.

So I guess you could ask my eyes.
