comprehend
you whispered you couldn’t comprehend
why my heart wasn’t your familiar confidant

why ventricles felt wrong in your clutch
creased curves of your palms didn’t correlate

atriums once were comfortably cradled
now lay perpendicular; capsized and crooked

for my heart no longer seizes and convulses
upon our ocular connection

instead molten core cools rapidly to crust
inner heat extinguished, corrosion complete

inclusions and imperfections condensed
all inner workings irrevocably corrupt

rise and fall of my chest cavity
no longer propelled via contraction

motors moving only through convection
raging, twisting, formulating currents

electrifying this muscle; cold, calloused
struggling for life against corrosion

I have already formulated the confliction
illustrated via toxic chemical confection

I whispered back; you, I cannot console
you’re my hearts’ condemnation
