Wet Bouquets of April
It was pouring
Here me when I say this
Pouring
Like the rain would never stop
And you
You didn't seem to notice at all
As I stood in the door frame
with the screen door propped
Your laughter carried to my ears
On a stray bit of wind
The clouds thundered
and the earth shook with anticipation
Then the water came
Every flower leaned in for more
Every leaf
Every blade of grass
Seemed to vibrate
With appreciation for the rain
And you
You didn't seem to notice at all
Tell me the truth
Do you remember
the cold harsh chill
Of the rain?
That day
As the rain came down
You picked flowers from the garden
And smiled at the clouds
I remember
You came in dripping
Like a dog crawling out of a pond
The mud clung to your legs and arms
And you
You didn't seem to notice at all
And you
You looked at me
Into me
And I
I knew
-I knew how to wind the rain
Around my fingers-
