It’s dark in here and lonely
If only I had a light.
Just enough light to see my thoughts
To peer inside my mind.

To light this path of darkness
I’m comfortable, yet I’m afraid.
I’m afraid I’ll fall. I’m afraid I’ll die.
I’m afraid of being betrayed.

I’m Afraid I’ll fail to measure up
to the potential others see.
I’m deathly afraid of losing you
I’m afraid I’ll not succeed.

I’m afraid you’ll disappear again
I’m afraid of letting go.
I’m afraid I’ll never find a friend
To love me for my soul.

I’m afraid of being used again
by those who play pretend.
I’m afraid of being judged again
for being who I am.

I’m afraid my fear will escalate
and take me to my grave.
I’m afraid this mental escapade
will eventually evade.
