I know you have to
but before you go
take my heart
and keep it

if you
really loved me you
wouldn't walk
away
empty handed

take my heart and keep it safe
under a bed or stuffed in your
makeup drawer

if I keep it in my chest I think
or, i guess I hope
it will quit, slip and shatter

you see if you take my heart
I can no longer lose
love lives forever

so take my heart where I cannot go
just that bit of me in a box
and if it makes you feel better
I can take yours
and keep it safe for you
