A veil obscured my vision
For years on end
All human connection
Seen as machine

People laugh and banter
I play my part
Cynical perspective
Close at heart

Decorations seem lifeless
A fruitless gain
Happiness clouded
Less glass than grime

People automatons
Following whims
The value of being
Only in stares

Additions to family
Joy but fleeting
Overwhelming doom
Spliced with sadness

The news so present
Leave me alone
Suffering all day
Humanity in doubt

If we’re just a fluke
A product of luck
We’ll be left to burn
At dusk self-wrought

Then the break happens
Sickness and struggle
Rock bottom brings comfort
Reflection in thought

Meaning of life still elusive
Yet things aren’t the same
If we’re alone in this place
We have a duty to remain

There is no creativity
Or record of past
Universe moves on
Holding onto a flame

Enrgy rises again
Mornings feel rain
Possibilities flourish
Appending to brain

Create and keep current
Push body to function
Losing weight on the rail
Cherishing kin and friend

My journey incomplete
There are days
Feeling in the dark
Pricking fingers in pain
