I See You ... Always
#InvisibleThreads

Fortunate to have been
betrothed to my childhood love,
truly a pure bliss that I could ask.
But a notion
that's frowned upon
in my village up to many centuries.
A marriage in love is impure,
while a marriage that is arranged is
pure they say,
because the blessings of elders in all is
to be given first they say.

We still instead, fell in love,
but knew that a secret
to keep was a must, as elders
around us considering this a taboo
would make sure we learn
the terrible consequences.

In fear yet in love,
we snuck out at night. The thrill
of seeing each other despite
being forbidden before marriage
made it all the more beautiful.
Stolen kisses and hugs,
with a lingering promise
of one day being in each other's arms.

On one such night,
after our secret rendezvous,
Her family catching her red-handed,
beat her to death.
As the name of the family
is mighty significant than shame!
They said.

I lost her, I lost my love!
She took away my soul
along with her and now
empty as I am,
walk around like a withered corpse
with days passing me by.

But wait... I see her,
I see her every day now.
She came back to me!
At times, she's happy and at
times somber.
I knew she couldn't leave me.
The bond we share is like an
invisible thread that will
forever bind us even unto death.

But wait... What's that I see?
Bruises, wounds, blood
all over her enchanting beauty.

'Avenge me' she whispers at first
with her hand stretched out,
'Avenge me!' she cries out loud.
'Make it stop!' I yell out loudly,
covering my ears from her shrill cry
in a futile attempt.
It suddenly stops, and I look around,
but she's gone ...

'No, No!' I scream at the top
of my lungs, and that's when
it hits me. The fury that's
been boiling internally
finally overcomes me.
I run to the kitchen and get a sharp-edged knife and a pistol from my grandfather's room and run away quickly ...

I stare intensely at the front door
of my lover's house,
trying to remember the pain,
the helplessness and the life
leaving her eyes as they mercilessly
beat her to death.
I take another step into the house and
cry out bloody murder before killing each and every soul in the house
until one could barely here the
crickets chirping ...

After a while,
I sit on the on the front
porch of the house, with
the stench of blood and
red marks all over me,
wiping the sharp edge of the knife
clean that's now covered in blood,
a smile spreads across my face
as I see my love looking at me
intently with a beautiful smile.
