The Mask
The mask that we put up everyday:
Does anyone see behind that?
No, they never care to,
And I'm sure it'll stay at that.
This mask covers up everything
Our screams and cries, our pathetic lies,
They only see what they'd like to see
Even as for help we cry.
In a world that allows only perfection
We've got no place to stay:
We imperfect beings, our mind's own kings,
Must soon be gone away.
We work night and day
To keep up this perfect illfusion
We don't let them see how they get to us
Alone we suffer this depression.
I thought that maybe one day:
I'll throw down this mask,
See them shocked, see how they feel,
And make themselves ask.
But will they change?Never, No;
They don't really care,
They'll just go their own ways
Leaving us alone here.
So I guess we put on our masks
Endure them as they chide
And make sure they learn it the hard way:
It's scary what a smile can hide.
Does anyone see behind that?
No, they never care to,
And I'm sure it'll stay at that.
This mask covers up everything
Our screams and cries, our pathetic lies,
They only see what they'd like to see
Even as for help we cry.
