Please Let Me Dream
Flashes. They come to me in flashes. Like lightning itself they leave me blinded, momentarily shocked.
Memories. The ones of a young woman suddenly struck awake and alive by a mere hello from a man sitting behind a computer screen. A dead heart brought to life the instant eyes locked.
I can smell the wood burning in the days yet to come.
I'm transported to a moment I'll soon be torn from.
My hands start to tremble. I feel my knees shake.
Lord, please let me stay in this dream and not wake.
Once it's all gone and this memory fades, I'll be left alone in the mistakes I have made.
Lord it's not fair to still need him so.
I've pleaded, I've prayed to just let him go.
I beg you have mercy and just leave me here, for I know that this man will soothe all my fear.
I open my eyes with tears on my face.
Reality hits. She's still in my place.
