Bugs
[A poem I wrote way back in the middle school ages. It has since been updated with proper spelling and grammar. ‘Bugs’ is a testament to how bored I was in class!]

Petra is a butterfly
who always floats
up in the sky.
Finally,
she lands
below,
And stops to say
“Hello!” to Koh.

Koh is short,
but good at sports.
That is all
I can report.

There’s also Lou—
he’s still brand new.
I’m not quite sure
what he can do.
This bug can fly,
and that’s enough,
but what of skills
and other stuff?
A quiet insect,
rather shy,
though I suspect
he’s quite the guy.

Jed is dull
and not too tall,
with tiny wings
that make him fall.
He’s just bored
and can’t afford
a new decal
for his skateboard.

Upside-down,
Jim’s such a clown!
Of all the bugs,
he wears the crown.
Hometown hero,
so much more,
goes splat upon
the kitchen floor.

Fynn’s a fly—
it makes him cry.
He has a teardrop
in his eye.
I’m not sure why
he’s oh-so sad,
but from the looks,
it’s pretty bad.
Poor fly Fynn,
he’s all done in,
a sorry bug
who never wins.

Olaf is a spider man
who lives inside
a soda can.
Pretty normal
for a bug,
besides his debt
and use of drugs.

Stew is lost—
no flying boss.
His wings are weak
and stitched
from floss.

These bugs are strange,
these bugs are fun,
but now—
“Enough!!”
We must be done.
