She's Taken.....
I loved her since childhood,
Her memory fresh in my mind,
Passing by, I saw her again,
Her face familiar, yet undefined.
Stepping out of Walmart,
Groceries in my hand,
I saw her parked next to ours,
But with another, a wedding band.
My heart ached as I put away,
The groceries for my folks,
Sat in the backseat, alone,
My emotions too much to provoke.
I couldn't take the chance,
For fear she wouldn't recall,
The boy who loved her dearly,
And watched her from afar.
So I sit here with my thoughts,
As she drives away with her life,
A lost chance, a missed moment,
But memories of her stay alive.
That smile she wore on the day we met,
At lunch in school, still fresh in my mind,
For the present I gave her, my first kiss and hug,
A cherished memory that I'll always find.
But looking back, I can't help but wonder,
If only I had been more mature and grown,
Could I have been the man she married,
With a happy life and love to call my own?
Yet, the past is gone, and I must accept,
The choices I made at that young age,
But the memory of that smile and kiss,
Will always be a source of comfort and sage.
