I Met The Devil Last Night
I went to hell and back last night,
The devil led me there,
Into the darkness from the light,
Down cold and lonely stairs,
He started with a whisper,
So quiet only I could hear,
And he instilled a fear in me,
That helped to draw me near.
He enticed me with his treasures,
Each one greater than the last,
And all the earthly pleasures,
That anyone man could ask,
He told me that he loved me,
And to worship only him,
He said turn from a world of holiness,.
And learn to embrace sin.
He said that no one really cared,
They only want what they can get,
Of earth and love and family,
It’s time now to forget,
But when I looked upon the earth,
A vision raised my soul,
I saw people working together,
Towards a common goal.
I thanked the devil kindly,
But explained that I must go,
Though he may be very wise,
There are things he doesn’t know,
Material things bring happiness,
But gold loses its shine,
Where as love and kind devotion,
Are what makes this life divine.
