Beauty and The Beast
I swore I'd never love again...
...The best laid plan of beasts and men.

I never thought I'd pay the price,
For the darkness in their heart...
They said I'm just an animal,
That I'd rip you part from part.

These hands, while not as gentle,
Still reach for warmth's embrace.
Hidden 'neath this green-eyed mask,
You'll find a human face.

But they came for me at night,
With readied pitchfork arms,
and blazing torches set alight.

The farmer in the dell,
To send me off to hell.

They came for me in the day,
Chanting from their holy book,
Their golden crosses on display.

The father in his saintly gown,
To put me in the ground.

I never thought you'd pay the price,
For this monster in the night,
Since you've gone, I took my toll,
Bite for bloody bite.

But what about this heart inside?
What's left when blood runs dry?
Is it longing for the stake?
To break apart and die?

Maybe they were right...
Or maybe I was wrong...
That words would cut too deep,
And hearts could love too strong.

I guess I do know one thing...
If all these flowers died,
And I only shed a single tear,
Its you for whom I'd cried.
