AT THE FIRES OF MORDOR
The strength of man has failed
Than records could bear,
But on that day at Mordor
It became too sad and clear.
Isildur before the fires stood
With the ring in his hand,
Facing the biggest test
That stares man in the face.

"Have me, I'm all yours,"
He could hear the ring whisper,
And in a twinkle of an eye
His outlook became changed.
Suddenly he saw all he could do
If he had so much power--
He could have the world bow
At the wave of his finger!

"Isildur, destroy the ring!"
Came the voice of rightness,
But his lust was far too gone
To heed the plead of justice.
"The ring is mine," he said,
As he turned with a wry smile;
Alas the strength of man failed
At the blazing fires of Mordor!
