Smile (For Dara, In Loving Memory)
Note: Three years ago, the world lost a beautiful soul. Her smile masked a lot of pain, but it always brightened any room she was in. I wrote this poem exactly three years ago after learning she’d taken her life. It’s raw and based in pure emotion. I chose not to edit it because the quality of the poem reflects my mindset at the time. RIP Dara. You are still missed every day.
SMILE
Every day, you’d shine a light
In the dark room, in the void.
Every day, you’d smile bright,
Making snark bloom where employed.
Friends like family,
Big sis with a bigger heart.
This poem’s a mess, like you, like me.
I just don’t know where to start.
But your smile...
Your smile is all I see.
Your smile...
Your smile will always be
The brightest,
The bravest,
The lightest,
The favorite,
Your smile...
Oh, your smile...
Went on for miles,
All the while
Hiding the pain
Behind the strength.
Nothing to gain,
Still going the length.
Your smile...
Bringing us together...
Your smile...
In my heart forever...
