Forever, Always Late
Maybe we found forever at the wrong time,
Too early to stay, too late to rewind,
When love was young and we were too shy,
To let our hearts speak and our eyes

We danced around each other,
Like children in a playground, together,
Carelessly singing love songs that felt so right,
But never daring to make the plunge that might

Take us to a place of no return,
Where rules of reason and time would burn,
And passion would reign supreme,
A blissful reality, a romantic dream.

Maybe we found forever at the wrong place,
In a world that seemed to have no space,
For two souls that wanted only to love,
And to each other's embrace, forever, hold.

We tried to make it work, we really did,
But sometimes love is just not enough to beat the grid,
Of obstacles and fears that keep us apart,
And steal from us the chance to follow our heart.

We parted ways, not knowing what to do,
And life went on, but it was never the same without you,
In every thought, in every dream, in every moment of my day,
I could feel the emptiness you left, the price I had to pay.

Years went by, and life took us to different places,
We built our own castles, with different faces,
We learned to love again, but never quite the same,
As we did when we were young and love was our game.

Maybe we found forever at the wrong time,
But that doesn't mean it was a crime,
To feel the way we did, to want what we wanted,
To chase a dream that in our hearts, was forever haunted.

I still remember the way you looked at me,
The way your eyes sparkled, the way you made me feel free,
Like nothing else in the world mattered, like no one else existed,
Like we were the only two people alive, two hearts that persisted.

We were always late, it seems,
To find each other, to chase our dreams,
To make it work, to take that leap of faith,
To hold on tight, and never let go, no matter the wraith.

Maybe we found forever at the wrong time,
But that doesn't mean we can't make it right,
Now that we're older, now that we're wiser,
Now that we know what we want, what we desire.

Maybe we can try again, just you and me,
And see where that road may lead,
Maybe this time, we won't be late,
Maybe this time, forever won't have to wait.
