I feel for the first borns
there’s no kingdoms to be given
but still a responsibility of great haste
that will unknowingly leave a bad taste

The parents aren’t all bad-just new
and like anything new, there are some
growing pains and times of learning
Leaving those first borns secrectly yearning
for a little control over their
sudden sense of responsibility

I am not a first born
and therefore
being able to comprehend the weight
upon my oldest brother’s shoulders
wasn’t on my selfish mind’s agenda
at the very mere age of eight

Now as I sit here writing these words
having the ability to turn the kaleidoscope
seeing a new image before me
I thank him for all love given I didn’t yet see
