The Beggar
I open my eyes
to dirt and grimace;
the sound of vehicles
in my ears. Hunger;
in my stomach.
So much I had to do
in life. So much I thought:
none that I sought.
Wasted my life,
I was fated to do so.
Lost my family
at thirty. These streets
were my home.
They say if you want to,
you can achieve
even the stars.
I too tried, but the
stars were too far.
Stretched myself to the fullest,
but I still fell apart.
Started begging on
the streets. Started
stealing out of greed.
Lost everything, it didn't
hurt as much, as it did
when I lost myself.
Failure
I am, not because
I have no wealth;
but because I lost
my religion- humanity,
and became an infidel.
I am only a beggar
on the streets,
one among the many else.
