Alone
Great Sultan with his hundred wives
And children all a swarming
The cat has nine carousing lives
Loose nights and lazy mornings

Noble lord with lands unbound
Beyond where eye can see
The stag roams over endless ground
Unfettered wildly free

Peasants give, are seldom bought
And love without a catch
The dog who thinks no vicious thought
Has friends no king can match

Children and wives enrich our lives
And land for some is treasure
When souls are bared a friend is rare
And all of those give pleasure

Yet when our fun has been and done
We reflect on our past alone
Though much was well a truth does tell
The human mind is lonely prone
