First glance, and she took her eyes away
I began to stare and picture what was at heart but those eyes were as still as water
What worse could have gone wrong?
Worries of what to live for?
Children and who to cater for?
A man who strikes his hands over her body?
Or a slow possession by a demon?

Then I looked again
The pain was beyond what the eyes portrayed
What was she hiding beneath the veil?
Was her face battered and bruised?
Has she lost her tongue to please the demon inside of her?
But I could still see light
Her eyes wrote a million stories
As I tried to get a close look
Her picture vanished from my head
