As the year comes to a close, I feel drained and lost
The weight of pain is heavy, at an unimaginable cost
Yearning for a respite, hoping to be fine
This year has stolen my happiness, a cruel design

I plead with 2024, please be gentle, be kind
I don't want to endure this turmoil, this bind
No longer do I want to sob myself to sleep
I long for a peace that runs deep

Her cries echoed, piercing the sky above
But he, the perpetrator, remained uncaring, aloof
A nightmare haunting, a defeated shadow cast
Desperate for escape, his fate sealed and vast

It's too late, time cannot be undone
The date is set, his destiny cannot be outrun
In the midst of life's enigma, he sought to hide
But she refused to let him be defined by his pride

Beneath the sunshine, he remained a shadow's cast
While she embraced the light, her love unsurpassed
She reveled in authenticity, in things both real and pure
Even when he tried to conceal them, she saw the allure

In the distance, they heard the crashing waves
Each one falling, hoping to reach the ocean's caves
But she, she knew how to swim, how to stay afloat
She was chosen, given a chance to rise above the boat

No longer a shadow, she basked in the sunshine's glow
Her love divine, a gift he could never truly know
She cherished the beauty in life's flighted things
Even when their presence eluded her sight's wings

And as she sailed through life's tempestuous seas
She defied the troubles, setting her spirit free
She placed her problems aside, refusing to be confined
Choosing to live beyond, embracing the peace she'd find
