Violet
It was all over you when we first met.
Grew out of it into different darker shades.
Was so proud, knew each other's color by a look.
Until, to be honest I still have no idea what mixed in.
When you mix around a rainbow, you see the storm.
Peel the layers, needing to know the undertones.
'Separate warm and cool on the palette, careful.'
I was not afraid of the earthy tones then.
Always walked around dripping colors,
Caught the eye because it was spoiled rain.
An artist is not afraid of intensifying it, blending.
Until the canvas, no longer recognizable, looks back.
You can't just reset stained cloth, water has memory
A reminder certain opposite shades never cross.
The paintbrush on my hand, dripping color,
Pouring, falling disorderly like violet rain.
