The Most Epic Race
I once raced a roadrunner in Phoenix,
much to the Dessert's delight,
her joy set our racetrack ablaze
scorching my Nikes, and the tiny bird's feathers

She invited her entire kingdom to watch,
her subjects immune to her fiery exuberance,
their cheers muster me to the finish line
as I run through her orange-stained canyon halls

ignoring the blistering heat was my own undoing
as I begin to interpret my delusions as confidence
which in turn reminds me -- this is the cuckoo's sport
no longer to my parallel, he leaves me behind in a cloud of dust
