When It Fades
I look into your bright blue eyes.
You have lost the twinkle in them over time,
Everything has been unloading onto your fragile shoulders.
You refuse to meet my eyes,
Knowing the spark has been fading for a while now.
Using our language as knives,
We don’t gain anything,
Only meaningless scars that cut too deep.
We are two trees of the same kind,
Growing apart and branching off into many different directions.
I feel the sun as you wilt away with past decisions.
It all comes back to you at some point,
Driving the divide deeper between us,
Like an ax splitting the wood of our foundation.
We fade away,
Just as the subtle whisper of the wind,
Telling us that our time’s up.
