I’ve been hiding and lying to myself.
All in the name of self-preservation.
Pretending that I don't care for you;
Withholding all my affection.

Being so nonchalant as I was,
I hoped all would be different this time.
If I didn't admit to loving you,
No pain would I claim as mine.

As a child will hide under their covers
Being shielded from monsters in the night.
I thought if I ignored my feelings for you,
We’d continue with everything alright.

But over time my ignorance came due.
All those feelings erupted within me.
Transforming them into something new.
My own emotional alchemy.
