Gale, Water And Winter
They swirl about
Snow flakes dance trading places in a winter tornado
A breeze flexes becomes a gale
Street sweeper
Blasting frozen air in the face
Owned by the newspaper deliverer.
Twighlight flicks on the facets that snowflakes will make
Frosting our houses and faces like cake
Awaken
Yes, slowly
We are not ones to hasten
Out from beneath our big quilted
blankets.
The black of the ravens who find treasure in trash
Against the white background
Does clash, the contrast sharpens the cold
As the darkness leans in
Our faces begin to find refuge by folding into our coats
The boats out at sea are not discouraged so easily by frozen flats or black frigid waters.
They are stark still with their masts unprotected by billowing sails, ocean flags
Better to keep them tied up and bare our boats bony skeleton than let the wind rip and tear white flags to rags
