You know that quote that says,
we are museums,
filled with fragments of those we've met?

I carry it with me,
in the way I cook bananas,
just as my best friend taught me.
In the careful sorting of clothes,
a lesson from my cousin—still practiced.

I introduced a darling friend
to a series of books,
where she found a quote
that now lives as her favorite.

The laughter in my sister's eyes
as she watches her favourite comedy show,
was born of my own.

And then, there’s the artist,
discovered through a past lover,
whose songs I listen to date.

We truly are museums,
exhibiting pieces of everyone
we’ve ever encountered
and I think that's beautiful.
