Death's Door
You never think it will happen to you.
The phone rings, heavy breathing through the phone.
"Hello?," you say;
but there's nothing to tell if they tried to come to your home.
Gun loaded, pacing back and forth;
Every shadow makes you startle, reality and time start to distort.
Adrenaline kicking in, wondering if this is the last night you'll be alive.
Exhaustion wearing you down,
scared if you fall asleep you'll die.
You try to get help but there's nothing they can do,
Even though you're the victim and you know they're preying upon you.
One, two, three
Searching for a place so you can leave.
Forced out of your own home,
forced to be alone;
unsure if he'll follow you where ever you go.
Struggling to be okay
Breaking down to suck it back up
Chin up, buttercup.
