How To Let Go
I learned how to stand
Before I could crawl.
I learned how to fight
When I couldn’t move.
I learned how to find hope
In the mist of dispair.
I was told to love through the hate.
I was taught to laugh
When tears choked my soul.
I learned how to guide a helpless child
Through the minefields of life.
I lea4rned to show them the
Wrong from the right.
So many things I have learned.
Things, through trial and error,
That I was taught.
But of all the knowledge I have gained,
One vital piece eludes me.
How do I now let go?
How do I step back and allow
Another to take the care of what is
Most precious to my soul?
What do I do when the dawn breaks
The first morning after you are gone?
Where will I get the strength to watch
You leave with the biggest part of my heart?
I have never learned that part.
