They talk about the golden years
when life is free to do what’s pleased,
to travel the world, create whatever,
all with wonder and ease.

Surprises cone, the body breaks down,
reality slaps when it’s time to slow down.
Bones begin to creak, joints can lock up,
maintaining energy becomes a work up.

Frustrations come when we can’t do
all the things we need to.
Pride gets heavy when we
have to ask for help.

Life goes on as we struggle to do
all the things we got used to.
Learning new ways to make it all work,
just to continue the forward efforts.

Until the time comes it doesn’t work,
it’s time to stop and build new paths
that bring a gentler breeze,
to explore easier depths.

Where golden years sounds like a spark,
it can leave us lurking in the dark.
Time to give up the old
and create better places to park.
