It all happened in Lagos precisely at the toll gate of lekki,
The surroundings there seemed very eccentric, very murky,
No one ever thought anything bad would happen, not even near gloomy,
The citizens of Nigeria had gone to protest, if they could be heard, they'd be lucky,


They held up the nation's flag, being borne out of brotherhoodness,
They wanted a country where the police won't exploit its citizens "weakness",
They wanted a country free from division, they needed the one of oneness,
They protested as it was lawful, they did it with boldness,


It came to dusk, then, the unexpected happened,
Men of the country's army came running, the protest they upended,
They shot at the people they are to protect, the people they had to rend,
Even with the nation's flag raised high, they still shot, they peopled fled,

They killed, they MASSACRED unarmed Nigerians,
They switched off the lights, They betrayed our trust,
They stained the nation's flag with blood, they frightened everyone,
On the 20th of October 2020, Nigerians saw "blood".
