When a Loner Meets a Loner
Sitting on the side bench
watching kids from my class,
happily singing and playing with
their best friends,
their laughter and cheers
loud and clear and not
bothered at all to get
dirt on their school wear.
Sadness fills my heart
at the sight of them,
not about the dirt they've got on them
but at the thought that nobody
ever actually has fun with me like that.
Yes! I would like to run around
and play, scream and shout,
till my lungs ache, but all they
ever do is snicker at me saying,
"Hey loner, you aren't ever getting anybody's company, for no one
loves a nerdy hillbilly!"
Little did they know, they were wrong
for one fine day a beautiful brunette
with chubby cheeks showed up
and sat at my usual spot
on the side bench.
Sitting with her face
resting on her palms,
silently looking at other
kids playing around.
Instantly I felt connected to her
and stared intently at her,
feeling my own reflection
staring back at me.
Oh, yes! A loner like me, she was.
So with a big deep breath, I boldly
made my way to her, to ask
a simple thing,
"Hey! Do you want to be my friend?"
Putting my hand forward, eagerly
waiting for her to shake on it.
Her eyes instantly lit up with joy
and with a smile on her face,
she stood up, shook my hand
and replied, "Yes! I would love to be
your friend".
Hence, from that day forth
we were no longer called
the loners again!
