This Place
Dust suspended in the air
Pebbles clattering down the rickety stairs
The bombardment has lasted ages
Another salvo begins
As soon as the last has faded
Much longer in here
I will surely go insane
Shadows chased away
By guttering candles
Every day is much the same
The cadence of the eruptions
More than I can handle
I persist
Papers strewn about the Space
The scribbles
my only escape
Startled by the scratch of the pen
Loud in the silence
Holding my breath in anticipation
Waiting for it to begin
The silence stretches
Without end
The stairs squeak alarmingly
As they accept my weight
Pushing with an unsteady hand
I release the door
Squinting into the brightness
Grey’s and Browns wash over the scene
Craters and rubble
A flash of red in the periphery
Is this a dream
A stunning woman in a crimson dress
Lips just as red
Sifting through the rubble
I must be dead
Alabaster skin
A smile exuding sin
She opens her arms
Gesturing for me to come
I stumble into her embrace

Ready to escape

This place

The relief

washing down

My face
