Something Lost
You’ve left for good,
There’s no return,
A piece of you,
Left back to yearn.

The fire left smoldering,
A smoke or fog engolding,
Sense of smell folding,
Eyes begun burning.

Itching at your throat,
You knew the stakes,
Yet chose to bolt,
Scorched trails behold.

Distance grows and aches begin,
It claws your mind,
It sinks teeth to feed,
Momento bereft of rememberance.

Friction to full on stop,
You can’t escape,
Conscience is locked,
Turn around to face unknowns,
A break of pattern,
The first step towards home.
