The road between the leaves

Amidst the maples, gold and red,
Where whispered winds through branches thread,
I stood before two paths untrod,
And sought my guidance not from God,

But from the leaves that danced in flight,
In autumn’s soft, enchanted light.
One path was clear, with steps well worn,
The other wild, by none adorned.

The first, a trail where many go,
Its way was smooth, its pace was slow,
But still the maples’ sighs did speak
Of shadows cast on souls too meek.

The second, veiled in mists untamed,
By few remembered, seldom named,
With leaves as bright as embers’ glow,
Inviting me through winds that blow.

The maples swayed, their limbs arched high,
As if to bless the path nearby.
Yet still I stood in thought profound,
Where should my way, my feet, be bound?

For though the beaten path seemed kind,
It lacked the spark to free my mind,...
