Wipers: African poetry/Nigerian poetry
I watched him!
I watched him hawk under the whips of the pouring rain,
At the slightest opportunity he would chase,
Cars after cars he would run
Benz, sienna,Jeep, rolls Royce
He chased but his chase became futile sometimes
He chased but the wheels of the moving vehicle would out run him
He chased and decided "it isn't worth it"
He had to rest.

The traffic came to a stop,
There he went Again,
I watched him try
"Oga nah 2500 last!'
He called out
Negotiation was something He was very excellent at,
But Alas! His negotiating talent failed him on this one,
Clock's ticking,
Soon he'd go home with aborted dreams,
Not today!

The rain got heavier now
Drenched in the whips of the raging rain,
He went for it again,
I watched him dart behind a corner
The rain mocked his misery
He took off his soaked shirt
On his head, it went
He was ready now,
Like a soldier in a war front,
He dived into the Rain
"Oga follow me buy nau"
Floated out of his shivering lips
As if touched by his Relentless trials,
The driver motioned him to bring it
He succeeded at last.
