Knocking on Heaven's Door
On the day of your birth
Seeing your cherub face
All the pains of how we got here
Your arrival erased
Wrapped in your mother's arms
So warm and so tight
All the world seemed
So good and so right
I remember the days on the couch
Your face... while you'd lie in my lap
You were The Beast and I was Belle
Until you fell into a nap
So handsome and successful
Over the years you grew and grew
And out of the nest
You jumped and you flew
You did much and tried hard
To be unlike your father
To be there for the ones you loved
Not treat them like a bother
But as many times it happens
You flew right into the trap
This time the trap took over, and
Now you're in an eternal nap
I see your cherub face
Just as it was before
It's time to go home now
