the cheapest fake gold hair
from the fashion boutique.
she looked at the price tag,
49 pesos suits her pocket.
on the counter,
two rich ladies stared at her
made fun of her baggy eyes
stained dress,
and ragged shoes
she's fine ignoring them.
but her face
obviously turned pale.

when she gets to her house,
she picks the most vibrant paper
and tops off the wig
with a yellow ribbon.
she goes upstairs,
puts on a cheery face,
and finally gives it
to her dying mother,
who has been battling
cancer.
