Sangam, the beginning of
literary era of classical Tamil
divided their landscape into
four.
Mullai, the forest ecosystem
Kurunji, the mountain ecosystem,
Marutham, the plains and
Neythal, the coastal ecosystem.
They are psycho geological divide
as well that each ecosystem vibrates
a human mood. Kurunji for lovers meet,
Mullai for awaiting the return of the lover,
Marutham for love-quarrel and
Neythal for melancholic unending waiting.
Sangam poetry will reflect on
one of those Genres or more.
When you pen your poetry
think of those classical genres!
