Lamentations
Sin has separated a once proficient nation from all its splendor
And thrown them below, and all they can do is groan.
Immorality consumed them and caused such frailty,
The mighty have fallen and are stricken with infirmities.
No one would have thought
That the looters would someday become the ones being looted.
Rebellion, recklessness, and their egotistic behavior caused this.
Their cup of sin has filled to the brim,
And the destruction from the cup overflows upon them, hope seems dim.
They cry out to their so-called allies, but they all turned their backs, leaving them to suffer.
The intensity of their cry has been subdued, and things flutter.
Gross darkness has encompassed them,
And the light that once shone upon them has faded.
Their cries for help are silenced by the darkness they once welcomed.
Their lackadaisical attitude has called upon the wrath of God.
He has struck them with His fierce anger;
He has turned against them as they had turned against Him.
But they couldn’t handle it.
Your prophets were blind to your sin and couldn’t warn you about your ways.
Oh, how sin has blinded your eyes.
The nation once called the joy of all the earth is now likened to a graveyard.
Wailing and mourning are the order of the day.
How could we not have been aware beforehand of this great fail?
Your prophets couldn’t warn you of this;
They gave you false hope that your ways were right until you were consumed.
Left and right, corpses fill the streets,
And they are buried in pits.
Their evil ways have finally caught up with them.
It took a long while; they had so many chances to amend,
But they didn’t.
They were given more than enough time,
But the ways of the devil had long become their blueprint.
In the day of the Lord’s anger, who can escape?
Who can save you from it?
The people of Jerusalem have seen it in full manifestation.
They will never forget it in a hurry, and among generations to come, it will be mentioned.
They converse among themselves as a nation,
Saying, “Why did we get carried away from the One whose power cannot be measured?
We will go back to the source.
We will cry and lift our hands to the One who will save us.
We have acknowledged our ways, and we are ready to make amends.
Our tears flow down and are never-ending.
The mercy of the Lord is like an ever-flowing stream.
He is good to those who depend on Him.
The Lord is our inheritance.
He is good to those who search for Him.
We will wait quietly for Him.
No one is abandoned by the Lord forever.
He punishes but also exalts afterward,
Because He finds no pleasure in hurting His own.
Now they sing to the One whose steadfast love never ceases,
Whose mercies never end, and in Him, there is peace.
Return back to God, ye people of Jerusalem.
Avert the impending doom lurking in the shadows.
Hold fast to the Most High and forget not His goodness,
Because He takes away lamentations
And replaces them with hymns.
Oh, ye believers, hold fast to Him.
