A Slice Taken From the Heavens

Dear night sky,
I am 6 years old,
usually, I look out into the night,
And there you are,
Full of sparkling wonder.
Stars glisten out until infinite space.
Yet tonight I am in wonder.
Tonight there is a slice of you taken from the heavens.
A marvel and wonderful thing that I have never encountered.
I wake up occasionally and I stare at your beauty.
I stare with such awe and excitement until the sun comes up.
Yet tonight there is a sliver of the night taken from my night sky that gives me chills,
Yet for some reason it is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
It's as though God himself took a tiny slice of darkness and gave me this peephole into what's behind the dark.
I only wish I could reach out to it
and see what's behind our already beautiful shade of the night sky.
I know it must be ancient. because there are holes in the shade you made us everywhere.
and my mom tells me that the night time shade that the heavens pull down on us is ancient. that the lights that twinkle through our night shade take thousands of years to reach us.
She even says that those tiny holes where the light come through might have already be fixed millions of years ago and we are only seeing their lights now.
But now there is 1 small slice in our shade that I hope will never get fixed.
One so unique that it's beauty cannot be matched by anything, and I awoke to get to see it before you quickly repair it.
I ask you God, please do not fix this scicle shaped hole in our night shade that keeps us safe from our hot sun, it is beautiful and I am in love with its shape.
I and my family are poor.
We live in a desert that is hot most of the day and there isn't much to love, Yet I love the night sky because it is you, My God, that gifts us with this cool night shade, and I love the holes where light twinkled through and now I've seen something I've never seen.
The scicle shaped cut where I know if I could just reach its edge, I would see you.
