The Single Mother
Wise and kind, always toiling
Yet so beautiful like a garden of flowers
Never sits, never sleeps, always thinks
And envisions a great future for her children

Not all heroes wear capes
Some are trapped and throttled by fate
To carry the weight
Of her family on her shoulders
A pot on head, a baby at her back
And her boss on her neck
Yet still dreams of a better life.

So, with all her abilities
She bears the responsibilities of both dad and mum
The sacrifices she makes
And the courage she takes
The world may never see
The struggle she carries without grumbling
For she smiles even while crumbling
At the storms of life she faces

A single mother, fighting her battles alone
In a silent night, her eyes never shut
Sleepless she stays, thinking of school fees
Rent, medication and their education
Yet societies despise her, blame her
For not having a man but I give her respect
Beyond respect for all she endures relentlessly
ALONE

Not all queens must put on crowns
Not all must have thrones, some have children
Graduating because of their hardwork
So with triumph she stands amidst the crowd
Celebrating the children she never gave up for
Become nurses, teachers, doctors, engineers
Asante sana great woman, you're an inspiration
To all single mothers around the world
