It shows up un-invited ,
One moment I'm smiling,
The next moment I'm crying.

I stay away from friends and family,
Retreating in a shell,
Because I don't want to speak.

Depression is real,
It makes me not easy to deal with,
One moment I love you ,
The next moment I hate you.

Depression is real,
I can't sleep when it's here,
It makes me feel suffocated ,
The things I liked before I no longer enjoy it.

Depression is real,
When it's around I'm a different person,
But I've learned to hide it so no one knows that I'm hurting.
