RICH MINDS, POOR HEARTS

The traffic had gone on awhile
Wondering what had happened for hours
It turned out the previous rain
Had flooded all the roads ahead!

The closer we neared the piteous scene,
It dawned on me a country sick.
Kids and teens had worked the road-
With clothes in mud and stomachs flat

A convoy had rushed us by
Diverting a stranded crowd
When just one car could mend the road
Two different worlds I thought for a moment..

But jokes on me my heart was broken!
I watched the cars that used the road
Cleared up well by future leaders.
While present ones gave not a dime!

On the same morn I came across,
A slum just beside the gutters!
Had a baseball pitch within.
Well..can't tell a story unknown..

But why did people struggle for space
Others had to just for play?
Do not lecture me on reasons
To justify the painful truth!

In shameless lands with ruthless leaders,
You walk around with dancing feet.
To rumbling beats of empty bellies,
Joined to that of filthy streets!

You carry with you an army hefty
In this country with no wars
What exactly do you fear ?
If you are honest indeed!

You know the doorsteps of every teen,
And places we will never see
Just to seek out countless votes
From people you give no heed.

We all have our shares of pain
Still we'll strive for daily gain
And what good is money spent
On everything but livelihood?
