HAITI
I’m from an island
not many minds can place
It's surrounded by water but is dryland
It's roots of ages grow from a vase
a platform of bookshelf pages
where I'm from
you’ll find the most beautiful treasures
deep down our core, what we’ve become
our actions-smoke, take flight like feathers
Don’t misunderstand our tone
when we speak with our voices so strongly
It's the language we made our own
the meaning of our beauty
I suggest you stay put
for if you visit you will become its heart
there you will journey on foot
and there, you will never depart
